Girl Scout Cookies

As I sit here I noticed a disturbing headline on Yahoo....girl scout cookies are reducing their size!
What the heck. in this time of down sizing would the girl scouts be any exception ...
yes, the little ones slaving away baking cookies day after day...oh my dear friends...

yeah I know ...are you resembling the pick elephant you have as a profile picture??!!

no I am just making a tongue in cheek comment how things change how things stay the same.
and even thought the cookies are smaller they still are a rite of spring...and of weight gain...

munch on dear friends munch on.....

Tampabay Brew Pub....
don't be fooled my the name my friends this establishment in Ybor City is a treat for those who enjoy great bar food with a true feel for what is Great.
My last trip's fare consisted of Bison - Yes, my friends Chipotle & Stout BB-Q Braised Bison short ribs and Tuna Tar-tar... "hold the phone you said bar food" well you got me there this is not bar food. although they do serve that too. and there is beer. Lots of it .. loving made on the premises.
the Doble clan as raised the bar on Bar food and the Nectar of the Gods Beer. I strongly suggest you get in your car any night of the week and take a heroic drive to Ybor city and try this place. you will not be disappointed.

Tampa Bites

Hello all I am going to give you my thoughts on the food chooses in the Tampa bay area. If you don't like what I say let me know ....
My first pick for Asian food Yummy house on Waters. so may great place are located on this road. Range from China to Brazil. this Particular place is one of the best I have found and trust me I have eaten some pretty crappy Chinese food
The place is nothing to look. simple decor. but hey what do you want this is simple fair. I recommend the salt and pepper anything.... I had tofu and before you go no way ... try it one you will never see tofu in the same light again. the same goes for the beautiful bowls of soups and top off the meal with mung bean dessert. The later item my not be for every taste but to me it is a great ending of a meal. The price is reasonable and like I said the place is casual. But for Great food Give Yummy house a try.

Am I laughing at the laughing cat??

Well may be yes, Walking into this small Ybor city establishment I was struck by the simplicity of the place. Would the food match the decor? Well. not really
We tried the seafood feast. a combination of Seafood, steamed in white wine and seasonings. I found it good but lacking in something. It came with nice sides. one of which was a Penne in Vodka sauce. Still something lacking in the sauce. however, it was a nice meal. Was it worth the $25.00?--- it could have been more. I am not sure what, seasonings maybe? the white wine could have been cooked out of the broth in the seafood combo? Could be?
The questions dear friends would I go back???
Yes, I always give any place at least 3 times. so Laughing Cat if you are listening. I am telling the folks who read this.... If you are in the mood for something that is different and have time to sit, eat and enjoy a nice glass of wine and fresh bread out of the oven. Go. Just remember there are other dishes to try and I sure the seafood combination will be better next time.
Oh, and did I say something about the Waite staff. who instead of just being order takers were more like "hey how are you doing tonight?" and mean it.
do try The Laughing Cat in Ybor City.
PS Fine folks of Tampa, Ybor City, If you have tired, it come back . If not, get in your car and come downtown. This has always been a place of unique cultural diversity, that has not changes over the past several decades. All thought the area is a Shadow of it's former self the flavors and the mood will always remain unique. It is still a gem.
Eat on Tampa.

Sushi and you...

Hello out there in food land, yes, once again I am out and about in the wide world of the culture that is Tampa.
This time it is Sushi. But not any sushi, it is where all of south Tampa goes for Sushi. I can hear you now. "Oh what trendy place have you gone to now in the world of South Tampa?"... Nose in the air.
No my friends. I am talking about Yoko's on MacDill Ave.
Yoko, who has come up in the ranks in this town. Has built a place like no other. Where quality is number one. The place it self in nothing out of the ordinary. but sit at the sushi bar and find everyone. Doctor, lawyers, Indian chiefs.
Honesty that is what Yoko's is . Simply the best Sushi place in town.
And Yoko herself. As one customer said to me. She is a class act(period)
Fresh , creative and tasty.
in a word Try it.
open for lunch and dinner.

L' Eden

Hello fellow foodies and those who just like to eat. It is I, your culinary guru letting you know yet another really cool or really bad place to plunk down your hard earned money or to stay away from.
the place this time , L'Eden. I discovered it one crazy Friday. I know a lot you who work downtown have days like that. Days that all you want to do is to go somewhere quite and have a nice lunch and not have to fight the crowds. This is your place. No, it is not that the food is bad or the service sucks. It is that it has yet to be discovered. Only opened for a month it is what it's name implies.L Eden. What can I recommend off the menu? yes, LOL all of the items on the menu are great I have been there four time ( and if you remember by reading my other reviews try a place 3 times before making a decision to go a 4th.) each time it has been fantastic. Run by Chef Gerard. (who by the way owns the french bakery across the street.) offers a wide range of dishes. He uses the freshest of ingredients and baked goods. you can not go wrong here. the restaurant is small . 40 people would fill the place up. I have not tried them for dinner, but will let you know when I do. L Eden open for lunch

A $150 meal gone wrong

Good afternoon you folks who read this blog ... once again I am here telling you what the heck is good and not so good in the Tampa bay area
this time is not so good. My husband and I decided I would not cook this Thanksgiving( well I decided ) so Husband made reservations at the swanky Marchand's Bar and Grill in the Vinoy hotel and resort in downtown St Pete.
Great a nice afternoon of dinning and dessert then a snooze in a rocking chair on the porch.
Got to the restaurant ....seated and given a menu with 3 choices for dinner... soup , salad , entree, dessert. No drink (coffee-tea-etc) included with dinner.
Soup: a Butternut Squash Bisque with a pumpkin seed Brittle....the soup was ok but the brittle on top had a tendency to stick to teeth....off to the ladies room to get it from between the molars.
Salad. plain greens with a little ( and I do mean little) stuck to the bottom of the plate chev. and dried candied cranberries....once again off to the ladies room
then the main course. we opted for the sea bass. sitting on a bed of risotto, I caught a taste of beet and is it catsup??? I think it was a reduction but who knows. the bass was perfect. I must note here that risotto is a challenge for any chef and to serve it for the masses is a trick.... it's usually over or under cooked in this case under.... sorry chef.
Dessert. I got (guess) chocolate cheesecake. nice, again , not a cup of coffee or an espresso were offered. Sorry but I can not see spending that amount of money to get an adequate meal. Give me something extraordinary or at least memorable in a good way.
for Christmas dinner?? well it will not be there.
